Not my 40th Birthday Party - Chateau Rigaud

Last weekend I had arranged for a small group of close friends (from back in the UK) with their babies/toddlers to meet in a chateau down near Bordeaux. It was the chateau Malc and I and Bella went to earlier this year for a baby and toddler weekend. The weekend was entitled Not Kate's 40th Birthday Party, because it wasn't my 40th birthday...

The chateau, run by an English couple has a fantastic concept of running house parties, perfect for people who like boutique hotel style, but have babies and toddlers. Everything has been thought about, equipment for babies, toys, separate meals, baby listeners (that work through 3 foot thick walls) nannies, everything. Once the kids go to bed, then the adult time starts with champagne cocktails and it goes on from there.

Everyone had a fabulous time...

Baby and Toddler meal times.
Starring four 8-11 month olds (Alex, Oscar, Sam, Suvi) and three "big girls" (Poppy 2, Bella 2, Orla 3). The two new borns (Sebastian 6 weeks, Rosie 10 weeks) didn't feature at the table. Amazingly with so many kids things went swimmingly. The nannies looked after them on Saturday morning whilst we went on a winery tour, and Sunday lunch time whilst we went out for lunch.
Adult Time
Once the kids went to bed at 8pm, we congregated in the bar to start the evening. Champagne and cocktails on Friday night, a wine tasting competitition on Saturday night, G&T in the lounge on Sunday. Followed by a fabulous dinner including presents and cake on Saturday for the girl whose birthday it wasn't

Travel and Play
We travelled there by TGV with Cath, Matt, Poppy and Rosie who took the Eurostar to Paris. The rest got there by plane. The chateau has sumptuous accommodation and extensive grounds. The weather wasn't great, but that was a good excuse for spa treatments, movies in the movie room, lazing in the lounges and lots of food and drinks. Oh and the occasional trip outside dressed as a dragon.
